SHAH ALAM: Three people found burnt to death in a factory fire at the Olak Lempit industrial area in Banting on Wednesday night are suspected to be Rohingya nationals.

Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said preliminary findings were based on identification made by individuals claiming to be the victims’ next of kin.

“At this stage, the three victims are suspected to be Rohingya. We have sent them to Banting Hospital for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) testing.

“Three family members claiming to be heirs have come forward. They are also Rohingya nationals, based on their UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) cards. Police will confirm the identities once the DNA results are released,” he told the media today.

He added that police were investigating why the three individuals were present at the factory, which was reportedly not in operation at the time of the blaze.

Yesterday, it was reported that three bodies were discovered after a fire razed four factories in the area.

Mohd Akmalrizal said the bodies were found by the Fire and Rescue Department during a follow-up inspection at the scene yesterday morning.

“Firefighters from several stations managed to control the fire at 1.11am yesterday. At 9.40am, they discovered the three charred remains. The gender and identities could not be determined at the time and the remains were handed over to the police,” he said.

Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said investigations showed the 100 per cent destroyed premises included an oil waste processing plant and a polymer materials factory.
