KENINGAU: Three teenage boys were trapped under soil while playing at the riverbank of Kampung Baginda this afternoon.
In the 1.16pm incident, the victims, aged between 12 and 13, were reportedly digging at the riverbank when a landslide occurred.
Keningau Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Raizaain Ag Damit said members of the public acted swiftly to pull the three victims out before firefighters arrived.
“One of the victims, aged 13, was injured and taken to hospital, while the other two were unharmed and returned home. The operation was fully concluded at 3.10pm,” he said when contacted.
Raizaain advised the public to refrain from activities near riverbanks, steep slopes or unstable soil areas that are prone to collapse, especially after rain.
He also urged parents and guardians to monitor their children and provide early guidance on hidden dangers around riversides or hilly terrain.
