KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he was deeply moved by the overwhelming show of solidarity at last night’s rally for Gaza, describing it as a reflection of the nation’s true character.
He said the thousands of Malaysians who gathered did so not out of obligation but from a shared compassion and conscience in opposing injustice.
“This is the true face of Malaysia — a principled and compassionate nation with a big heart that refuses to accept oppression and tyranny.
“Malaysia is not afraid to stand up for the truth,” he wrote on his social media pages.
Anwar said the unity on display proved that Malaysians stand firmly for humanity and peace wherever injustice occurs, and affirmed that the country would never shy away from defending justice on the global stage.
He reiterated his government’s commitment to several key actions: calling for the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, holding the “Zionist regime” accountable, and strengthening partnerships with friendly nations to pursue a lasting peace.
The ultimate goal, he added, remains the establishment of a free and independent Palestinian state.
Anwar concluded with a pledge that Malaysia’s voice would continue to resonate globally until Gaza is free, declaring, “Gelombang Malaysia, Palestin Merdeka” (The Malaysian Wave, A Free Palestine).
