MOSCOW (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti): Around 6,000 people are expected to participate in the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in the Russian city of Vladivostok in September, with the participant geography currently covering 36 countries and territories.

“It is expected that around 6,000 people will participate in the forum. Already now the geography of participants covers 36 countries and territories,” Russia’s Roscongress Foundation said on Friday.

The EEF gives impetus to the development of the Russian Far East, attracting new investment projects to the Far Eastern regions, Roscongress said, citing Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev, presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District and chairman of the EEF Organising Committee.

“Residents of the Far East can already feel the changes. New enterprises and airports are being built, jobs are being created. Obviously, there is still much to be done, but, in fulfilling the president’s (Vladimir Putin’s) instructions, we must clearly understand that the Far East today plays a special role.

“It is becoming a transit territory for the markets of Russia and the Asia-Pacific region countries,” Trutnev was quoted by Roscongress as saying.

The programme of the forum that will take place from September 3-6 will include business dialogues with entrepreneurs from , India, Thailand, Myanmar, and Asean countries, Roscongress said. – Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti
