KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has help up a viral video of US President Donald ‘s motorcade travelling smoothly on Malaysian roads as evidence of the nation’s infrastructure quality.

He said the clip, which gained traction online over the weekend, reflected well on Malaysia’s road network and maintenance standards.

“It’s a pleasant and well accepted praise. It shows that our roads are in good condition and comparable to international standards,” he said after officiating the Road & Traffic Tech Expo (MyArtte) and the Malaysian Road Maintenance Convention (MRMC) 2025 here today.

The 13-second video, posted on the X platform by ‘s Special Assistant and Communication Advisor Margo Martin, shows the presidential convoy cruising along a sleek, tree-lined highway en route from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to the capital city.

Captioned “President ‘s motorcade through Malaysia en route to the Asean Summit,” the clip has since garnered two million views at the time it was posted on October 27. Trump was a guest at the Asean Summit that Malaysia hosted.

Nanta said the government remains committed to ensuring that Malaysian roads are safe, durable and technologically advanced, noting that ageing infrastructure requires constant attention.

“We are not just building new roads, we are maintaining what we already have because our roads are ageing. If we don’t act proactively, they will soon deteriorate,” he said.

He added that Malaysia is keeping pace with global developments by incorporating science, technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in road engineering and maintenance.

“I just came back from a road engineering conference in Korea where many participants showcased AI-based solutions for maintenance and design. Well, Malaysia is not left behind, we’re adopting these technologies as part of our strategy,” he said.

He also disclosed that road maintenance contracts in several zones will soon expire and assured that the ministry is prioritising accountability through independent reviews.

He reiterated that any future companies must undergo rigorous auditing by third parties as most of the existing contracts will expire by February 2026.

Nanta said third-party auditing is crucial to ensure that monitoring does not rely solely on the Public Works Department (JKR), but also involves external oversight to strengthen accountability, integrity and transparency.

The expo runs from today until Wednesday, with free admission for the public.
