KOTA BARU: Thai police have identified the suspect who shot a Malaysian man at a house in Sungai Golok yesterday.

A police spokesman said the suspect, who lives in the same sub-province, fled the scene after leaving behind his gun.

“At around 6.40pm (Thai time), police from Sungai Golok station received a report of a shooting incident that left one person seriously injured at a house in the town area.

“Upon receiving the alert, Sungai Golok police, together with volunteers from the Seng Moo Tharn Nam Jai Foundation, rushed to the scene to provide assistance.

“The victim, a Malaysian man aged 33, who resides with his family in the border town, sustained severe injuries and was taken to Sungai Golok hospital.

“He died shortly after arriving at the hospital,” said the spokesman.

The spokesman said according to eyewitnesses, an argument broke out between the victim and the suspect prior to the shooting.

“The dispute is believed to have stemmed from a personal debt issue.

“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly drew a 9mm handgun and fired multiple shots at the victim, who collapsed in a pool of blood before the shooter fled amid the chaos,” said the spokesman.

The spokesman said police have since identified the suspect and are now searching for the suspect.

“Police is expected to arrest him soon,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman said Thai authorities are continuing to gather evidence and conduct further investigations to determine the real motive behind the incident.
