KOTA BARU: Thai police have completed investigations into the murder of a Malaysian man who was allegedly killed by a former footballer in Sungai Golok town in November last year.

Sungai Golok police chief Thun Sirikhunt said the investigation papers had been finalised and submitted to the public prosecutor’s office for further action.

“We have recently handed over the investigation papers to the prosecutor’s office, and the case is now under consideration,” he said, adding that Thai police are awaiting further instructions from the office.

The 31-year-old former footballer has been remanded at Narathiwat Prison.

“He has been remanded for 84 days since Nov 2,” Thun said.

The Malaysian victim, identified as Mohd Fuad Fahmie Ghazali, 33, was reportedly shot dead at his home in Sungai Golok town on Nov 1.

Following the incident, Thai police arrested the suspect after he surrendered the next day.

Two pistols were seized from him. The suspect is from Bereng, Sungai Golok.

Fuad was reportedly shot following an argument with the suspect over a business debt.

The suspect is expected to face a murder charge as well as other charges, including illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and carrying firearms in public without a permit or reasonable cause.
