The Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement has exceeded its crowdfunding target to support a UN advocacy trip to Geneva, after receiving RM83,302 in donations within 24 hours.
This brings the total amount raised to RM122,377, the group said in a statement today.
The funds will be used to support Teoh Lee Lan’s effort to file a complaint with the United Nations Special Rapporteurs on Human Rights in Geneva regarding the death of her brother, former political aide Beng Hock, in 2009.
The group had said yesterday its initial target had not been met, but expressed gratitude for the outpouring of public support since then.
It said the crowdfunding campaign is now closed, and that the surplus will be used to organise public forums and the association’s annual memorial events.
The association launched the fundraiser last month with a target of RM50,000 for Lee Lan’s trip to push for international action on the long-standing case.
