Tension in Dewan Rakyat after PN MP alleges corruption in PKR

KUALA LUMPUR: Proceedings in the Dewan Rakyat turned tense this morning after an opposition MP alleged corruption within .

Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN–Besut) made the remark while referring to the recent resignation of the prime minister’s senior political secretary, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, who has been linked to alleged corruption.

Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN–Hulu Terengganu) then interjected, asking whether Che Mohamad Zulkifly agreed that corruption existed in . The Besut MP replied in the affirmative.

This prompted a protest from Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PH–Sungai Petani), who invoked Standing Order 36(6), saying the opposition MPs’ remarks amounted to a malicious insinuation.

“Hulu Terengganu said is a corrupt party, and Besut supported that. We cannot label the entire party as corrupt. Even if corruption has occurred, let the courts decide.

“Tambun (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim) has already acted firmly by accepting his political secretary’s resignation and calling on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate without interference,” he said.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Ramli Mohd Nor then ordered Che Mohamad Zulkifly and Rosol to withdraw their remarks.

Both MPs defended their statements, arguing that they were referring to the party, not to any individual.

“PKR is not a person but a party. I was asking Besut, not making an accusation,” Rosol said.

Ramli maintained his ruling, noting that many PKR members were present in the House and could be implicated by the comments. Rosol subsequently withdrew his remark.

“Okay, if that’s the case, I withdraw,” he said.

Che Mohamad Zulkifly continued to insist that corruption existed among some PKR members but was questioned by Dr Mohammed Taufiq on whether his claim had been proven.

Ramli advised Che Mohamad Zulkifly to file a motion if he disagreed with the ruling. The Besut MP later withdrew his statement.

“It’s all right, I withdraw,” he said.
