KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — A 14-year-old male student was remanded for seven days by the Magistrates’ Court in Petaling Jaya today to assist in the investigation of a case involving the stabbing of a 16-year-old female student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama.
National daily Sinar Harian reported that Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapha issued the order after granting a request from the police.
The suspect, who is also a Form One (Transition Class) student, is remanded until next Tuesday and is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
During the proceedings, the suspect, dressed in an orange shirt, was represented by lawyer Anuar Ezzad.
New Straits Times reported that he is expected to be taken to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters for further action as investigations into yesterday’s deadly incident continue.
Police yesterday confirmed that a 16-year-old female student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama was fatally stabbed by a male classmate.
The attack reportedly took place in or near the girls’ toilet of SMK Bandar Utama 4 on Tuesday morning.
Initial investigations found that the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the incident were recovered at the scene.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that a 14-year-old boy had been detained in connection with the case.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said the victim sustained several stab wounds to the body, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon.
Initial investigations found that the victim had been stabbed repeatedly with two different weapons.
The repeated stab wounds are believed to have caused her death.
