KUCHING, Oct 12 — A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Bau on Friday for allegedly raping an underage girl and circulating an explicit video of her on social media without consent.
According to Bau district police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman, the arrest was made following a report lodged by the victim’s mother on Oct 9.
“The complainant stated that her underage daughter was sexually assaulted by her former boyfriend, who also circulated an explicit video of the victim on social media without consent,” he said in a statement.
Acting on the report, Mohd Haide said a police team from the Bau Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect and seized a mobile phone believed to have been used in the incident for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Section 376(1) carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and whipping, while Section 233 provides for a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment not exceeding one year, or both, upon conviction. — The Borneo Post
