KOTA KINABALU: More than just special tour package deals, the Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia–Sabah showcased how teamwork and family bonding can elevate any travel experience.

The final day of the event at Imago Shopping Mall on Sunday (Nov 16) was a lively celebration of family fun, cultural pride and travel inspiration, demonstrating how community spirit drives meaningful engagement.

Held over three days, the carnival brought together 79 exhibitors, from travel agencies to craft makers and food vendors, offering exclusive packages and promotions to boost domestic tourism.

During the launch on Saturday (Nov 15), Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan highlighted the ministry’s focus on collaboration.

“What is important is the cooperation between the government and agencies. This synergy enables programmes like this to be successfully implemented,” he said.

He added that the Cuti-Cuti Malaysia initiative was timely, urging Malaysians to rediscover their own country while supporting local businesses.

The event provided much excitement throughout the final day, especially during the indoor treasure hunt where families worked together to solve clues and learn about Sabah.

One young participant, 11-year-old Noel Norbert Wong from Keningau, took part with his sisters, Andrea and Emma.

“I thought it was just another shopping trip but I got to solve clues and learn about Sabah,” he said with a grin.

Their mother, Emmy Barnabas, praised the event’s family-friendly approach.

“Our children get to have fun and learn while we browse for our next holiday destination,” she said.

Performances by local singers Ray Kimara, Dabra Sia and Elica Paujin brought the carnival to a spirited close, blending music with cultural pride.

Sabah marked the final stop of the nationwide Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia series organised by Tourism Malaysia and Star Media Group ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.
