Teachers relay their plea for school hall directly to the Sultan of Pahang

KUANTAN: A group of teachers yesterday seized the opportunity to express their long-standing concern personally to the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Their ‘request’ was regarding the absence of a school hall at SK Bota in Chenor, Maran located some 30km from Maran town.

The teachers held a cardboard placard written ‘Daulat Tuanku, SK Bukit Bota nak dewan. Kami tiada dewan’ (Daulat Tuanku, SK Bukit Bota wants a hall. We don’t have a hall)

The ruler who was behind the wheel during his Kembara Pahang 1.0 programme in Chenor, Maran. stopped the vehicle and carved out a smile while he sportingly held the placard for a picture which has since gone viral on social media.

The picture was accompanied by a posting on the Kesultanan Pahang Facebook page.

“His Majesty hopes that the relevant party, namely the Education Ministry, can look into the application,” read the posting.

The female teachers were among hundreds who had lined up along the road at Kampung Bukit Bota near the school to greet the royal entourage which included the Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah during the programme.

The three-day programme saw their Majesties along with their entourage travelling some 428k, through four districts – Maran, Temerloh, Bera, and Pekan. The programme ended yesterday.

Al-Sultan Abdullah Al-Sultan Abdullah yesterday assured that complaints raised by the people during his journey at the programme would be forwarded to the relevant authorities for action.

Meanwhile, Chenor assemblyman Mujibur Rahman Ishak said he will meet the school’s management to provide necessary assistance so that the process can be expedited.

“The school does not have a hall and utilises the classroom as a makeshift hall. The teachers were only raising their concern on the matter.

“I will assist them and hopefully the school will have a new hall soon,” he said.

New Straits Times has contacted Pahang Education Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Soffi Abd Razak for comments.
