KUALA LUMPUR: Schools and teachers may have full autonomy in conducting the Academic Session Final Test (UASA), but this does not mean they can set examination questions arbitrarily, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said teachers must adhere to the standard test specification table (Jadual Spesifikasi Ujian) and guidelines issued by the Examinations Board when developing UASA questions.

“When teachers prepare examination questions, they must follow the standard test specification tables provided by the board and the guidelines.

“This means teachers cannot simply draft questions at their own discretion. We have a standard guideline that must be followed and guidance has already been provided to our teachers,” he said in response to Datuk Dr Richard Rapu (GPS–Betong), who asked about the uniformity of standards between urban and rural schools to ensure there is no disparity in UASA assessments.

In the context of UASA implementation, Wong said starting from the 2024/2025 academic session, the ministry had granted full autonomy to schools and teachers in conducting the final test.

“This autonomy covers the preparation of test questions, test administration and operations, marking, as well as reporting.”

He said that the process has been running smoothly over the past two years, and the ministry also conducts support visits to assist teachers in managing the UASA.

Wong added the ministry has trained 259,656 teachers on question preparation, exam administration, and assessment methodologies for UASA, as part of the classroom-based assessment component.
