Taxi driver killed, 4 injured in Rompin crash

A taxi driver died and four others were injured in a three-vehicle collision on Jalan Kuantan-Segamat in Rompin, with police citing loss of control as the cause.

ROMPIN: A 60-year-old taxi driver was killed and four others injured in a three-vehicle collision on Jalan Kuantan-Segamat.

The fatal accident occurred at KM143 of the road at 11.20 pm yesterday.

Rompin police chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said Abdul Rahman Yusoff, driving a Perodua Alza, suffered severe head injuries.

He died while receiving treatment at Muadzam Shah Hospital in Rompin.

His wife, son and granddaughter, aged between 14 and 58, were injured and taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.

Preliminary investigations found the crash also involved a Toyota Vios and a Proton Wira.

The Toyota Vios was driven by a 26-year-old man heading from Segamat towards Kuantan.

The other two vehicles were travelling in the opposite direction.

“The Toyota Vios driver is believed to have lost control of his vehicle and veered into the opposite lane, crashing into the two cars,” Sharif Shai said.

The Toyota Vios driver sustained injuries in the collision.

The 56-year-old driver of the Proton Wira escaped unscathed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
