PETALING JAYA:

Sungai Petani MP Taufiq Johari has become the latest lawmaker to fall victim to cyber blackmail involving AI-generated pornographic content, following similar incidents targeting Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and Subang MP Wong Chen.

In a statement, Taufiq revealed that he had received a threatening email on Friday from an unknown sender, which contained a pornographic video featuring AI-edited images of him.

The sender demanded US$100,000 to prevent the video from being circulated publicly.

“This is a serious act of cybercrime,” he said.

“The video is intended to tarnish my reputation and integrity.”

He said he has lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and will be filing a police report to facilitate a full investigation.

Taufiq also urged Malaysians to remain vigilant against emerging threats involving deepfake technology and online extortion.

“This kind of fabricated content doesn’t just damage individuals, it threatens the safety and trust within our society,” he said.

Rafizi and Wong Chen yesterday disclosed similar attempts to smear their names and extort them through doctored content.
