Last month, Prime Minister Ibrahim said Malaysians will enjoy a lower RON95 price of RM1.99 per litre once the targeted subsidies come into effect.
PETALING JAYA:

The targeted RON95 petrol subsidy scheme will see recipients having a capped quota for the amount of subsidised petrol they can pump in a month, says finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan.

Amir said this quota system was being finalised and would differentiate between ordinary users and those whose jobs are heavily reliant on petrol, including e-hailing and p-hailing drivers, The Edge reported.

“We must have a quota. We do not want people to pump fuel for others.

“Ordinary users will have a set quota. For p-hailing and e-hailing drivers, the quota will be higher because this is their primary source of income,” he was quoted as saying.

The minister said complete details on the targeted RON95 subsidy will be finalised by the end of next month, including the eligibility criteria and the method of implementation.

In terms of eligibility, Amir said the Treasury would consider the income level and type of vehicle being used.

He said the government had held multiple tests on implementing the targeted subsidy mechanism, including using MyKads, e-wallets and apps.

Last month, Prime Minister Ibrahim said Malaysians will enjoy a lower RON95 price of RM1.99 per litre once the targeted subsidies come into effect.

, who is also finance minister, said this would benefit around 18 million car and motorcycle users. All foreigners will have to pay the full unsubsidised rate, he added.
