DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) — Tanzania’s Zanzibar recorded 86,740 tourist arrivals in October 2025, a 24.2 percent increase from 69,860 in the same month last year, according to official data released Thursday.
Hassan Ameir Vuai, research and statistics officer at the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism, told a news conference that the number also represented a 3.1 percent rise from the 84,154 visitors recorded in September 2025.
Vuai said Europe remained the leading source market, contributing 58,332 visitors, or 67.2 percent of the total, followed by Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
Italy topped the list of countries of origin with 8,894 arrivals, accounting for 10.3 percent of the total, followed by Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and South Africa, he said.
He said 92 percent of visitors entered the islands by air and 8 percent by sea, while male visitors numbered 48,127, accounting for 55.5 percent of the total.
“About 99.3 percent came for leisure purposes, with an average stay of eight days,” said Vuai.
