Tanjong Sepat assemblyman backs Sultan's call for controlled pig farming

SHAH ALAM: Tanjong Sepat assemblyman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah has expressed support for the Sultan of ‘s stance that pig farming activities should be carried out on a limited and controlled scale to meet the needs of the non-Muslim community, and not be implemented on a large or export-oriented basis.

Borhan, who is also executive councillor for housing and culture, said he fully upholds the views and royal guidance of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah regarding the proposed pig farming operations in Kuala Langat, particularly those involving the Tanjong Sepat state constituency, including plans to relocate the farms to Bukit Tagar.

“As a member of the State Executive Council and the elected representative for the affected area, I respectfully and fully express my support for His Royal Highness’ stance.

“In this context, effective control of livestock waste management systems is among the critical elements that must be given serious attention and strictly complied with to ensure cleanliness, environmental safety and the well-being of the community,” he said in a statement today.

Borhan said he also took note of the Sultan’s firm position in not consenting to Kuala Langat being designated as a temporary pig farming site before relocation to Bukit Tagar in 2030, citing concerns over pollution risks, the impact on residents’ well-being and local community harmony.

“As the assemblyman, monitoring of pig farming issues in this area is carried out on an ongoing basis. Various complaints from residents, particularly related to odour pollution and alleged waste management issues, have consistently been given due attention and raised through the appropriate channels,” he said.

He stressed his commitment to continue closely monitoring developments related to the issue and to ensure that all actions taken remain aligned with the Sultan’s guidance and wisdom, while prioritising the interests of the people and harmony in the state.

It was previously reported that Sultan Sharafuddin had expressed strong displeasure over the state government’s plan to allow pig farming operations to continue in Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat, starting this year, before their proposed relocation to Bukit Tagar in 2030.
