PETALING JAYA:

World mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei booked a spot in the semi-finals at the Denmark Open after defeating compatriots Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai today.

The world No 4 pair, who are younger than No 9-ranked Soon Huat-Shevon, won 21-17, 21-11 in just 38 minutes at Arena Fyn in Odense, Denmark.

This marks their fifth win over their compatriots in eight meetings so far.

The Malaysians will now face either ‘s world No 1 pair Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin or Denmark’s Mathias Christensen-Alexandra Boje in the semi-finals.

For Soon Huat-Shevon, it was another disappointment, as they have yet to reach a final this year, having only made two semi-finals and nine quarter-finals in the season.

As quarter-finalists, they take home US$5,937.

The Denmark Open, a BWF World Tour Super 750 event, offers total prize money of US$950,000.

Winners in the doubles categories earn US$70,300, runners-up take US$33,250 and semi-finalists collect US$13,300.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei will be hoping to reach their third final of the season after making seven semi-final appearances so far. They won the World Championships title in August.
