Tan Jie–Ee Wei lift Malaysia’s first mixed doubles world title

MALAYSIA‘s Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei created history by winning the nation’s first-ever mixed doubles crown at the Badminton World Championships in Paris.

The world No. 4 pair defeated ‘s second seeds Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin 21-15, 21-14 in the final at the Adidas Arena, completing the victory in 39 minutes.

The result delivered only Malaysia’s second world title overall, following men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik’s success in 2022.

Chen and Toh started strongly, taking the first game 21-15.

The Chinese pair attempted a fightback in the second, closing the gap to 12-14, but the two Malaysians held firm to secure the win.

The title also ended Malaysia’s long wait for mixed doubles success at the world level as the country’s previous best result was a bronze from Koo Kien Keat and Wong Pei Tty in 2006.

For them, the victory capped a turbulent year in which the pair were briefly split after the All England but later reunited under coach Nova Widianto.

Nova had himself won the world title in 2005 with Liliyana Natsir.
