KUALA LUMPUR: Muar MP Syed Abdul Rahman paid a heartfelt tribute to Ummu Haiman Bee, the mother of the late Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) cadet Syamsul Haris Shamsudin.

“Ummu went to great lengths to seek justice for her son, even exhuming his body for a second post-mortem.

“My respect goes to you Ma’am,” said when debating the Anti-Bully 2025 Bill in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday(Dec 3).

“The reality of most cases of bullying to death takes place at higher education institutions, look at the Syamsul Haris case,” he added.

Bukit Aman has taken over the investigation of the case after it was reclassified as murder.

proposed three improvements to the Bill, including expanding coverage to higher education institutions.

He said that not only the bully but also their support system, which protects the bullies, must be held accountable.

He also said the RM250,000 penalty should be increased, and the quantum is determined on a case-by-case basis.

“If the bully comes from a rich family and is a repeat offender, the amount is very small for their millionaire parents who may just pay off the amount to protect their family’s reputation,” he added.
