KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian squash player Syafiq Kamal had to play bridesmaid once again in the final against Egypt’s Omar El Torky within a week.
The world No. 123 went down to world No. 189 Omar 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 in 32 minutes in the New South Wales Open final in Sydney today.
In the semi-finals, Syafiq defeated Australian sixth seed Cameron Darton 11-4, 11-8, 11-9.
On Nov 2, Syafiq was also beaten by Omar 11-8, 11-6, 11-6 in the North Coast Open final in Australia.
Syafiq, 29, said: “I thought I could have played better in the final. But I couldn’t really get my shots consistent. Omar, on the other hand, played well. I need to improve my physical game.
“But I am grateful to be able to play in two back-to-back finals,” added Syafiq, who has won four titles as a professional for 14 years.
