KUALA LUMPUR: The seven national heritage players suspended by FIFA may seek compensation from the FA of Malaysia (FAM) for loss of income.
It is understood the seven players are weighing up whether to seek compensation from FAM after it admitted that its administrative staff made a technical mistake in the document-submission process.
A source said the players are considering legal options after that error led to 12-month bans imposed by FIFA from all football activities.
The source also said several players have lost income after their playing opportunities were affected by the FIFA suspensions,
with reports that some clubs may have decided to terminate their playing contracts.
“Foreign lawyers are understood to be in talks with the seven players, who are considering legal action against FAM over the technical mistake the association has acknowledged. They can do so and it would not be surprising, given the financial impact of the bans,” the source said.
“A compensation claim would also help clear their names and make it easier for them to find new clubs after the suspension.
The seven players are each banned from all football-related activities for 12 months and fined 2,000 Swiss francs (about RM10,800).
The seven players – Gabriel Palmero, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel – were found to have breached Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code relating to falsified documents.
