Suspect in cop stabbing, woman's murder believed to have fled abroad

KUALA LUMPUR: The main suspect in the case involving a police officer who was shot and stabbed in Simpang Pulai, Perak, before the body of a woman was later found in the car he was driving, is believed to have fled abroad.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin confirmed the matter, adding that the suspect was a relative of the deceased woman.

“Police have sought assistance from Interpol to trace and arrest the suspect as our investigation found that the main suspect in this case has fled overseas,” he told Berita Harian today.

Elaborating further, Noor Hisam said that the police do not rule out the possibility of other parties being involved in the case, besides the suspect, who is currently on the run.

“Investigations are still ongoing, and we are not ruling out the possibility of third-party involvement in this case,” he said.

In the 1.15am incident on Sept 7, a patrol unit from the Simpang Pulai police station spotted a suspicious-looking man in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) during a crime prevention operation in Taman Desa Pakatan.

The suspect fled when approached, prompting a high-speed chase that ended near an oil palm plantation.

During the arrest attempt, a struggle broke out between the suspect and one of the policemen.

The suspect managed to seize the officer’s service pistol and fired a shot, hitting the 26-year-old corporal in the abdomen. He then stabbed the officer before fleeing with the firearm.

It was also reported that nine people, including a woman, have been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations into the case.

The female suspect was remanded under Section 302, while the other eight male suspects were remanded under Section 307 of the same code.
