PETALING JAYA, Sept 14 — Sungai Petani MP Taufiq Johari has become the latest PKR lawmaker to fall victim to cyber blackmail involving AI-generated pornographic content, following similar incidents targeting Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Subang MP Wong Chen.
In a statement today, Taufiq said he received a threatening email on Friday from an unknown sender, which contained a pornographic video featuring AI-edited images of him.
The sender demanded US$100,000 (RM470,000) to prevent the video from being circulated publicly, Free Malaysia Today (FMT) reported
“This is a serious act of cybercrime. The video is intended to tarnish my reputation and integrity,” he was quoted as saying.
Taufiq said he had lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and would also be filing a police report to facilitate a full investigation.
He urged Malaysians to remain vigilant against emerging threats involving deepfake technology and online extortion.
“This kind of fabricated content doesn’t just damage individuals, it threatens the safety and trust within our society,” he said, according to FMT.
Yesterday, Rafizi and Wong Chen revealed they too had been targeted by similar blackmail attempts using doctored videos.
Wong Chen lodged a police report after receiving an email threat claiming to possess a lewd video of him with another man.
Police said the case was being investigated under Section 385 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Rafizi also disclosed that he had received an email demanding US$100,000 to suppress a similar video.
He clarified that the screenshot attached to the email was a fabrication created using artificial intelligence, stressing that it was an attempt to smear his name.
