KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — Sungai Buloh PAS chief Zaharuddin Muhammad was arrested early this morning in connection with the eviction of Kampung Sungai Baru residents, police confirmed.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the arrest took place at Zaharuddin’s home, according to a Berita Harian report today.
“Yes, I confirm the arrest in relation to the Kampung Sungai Baru case the other day. The case is being investigated under Section 186, Section 353 and Section 324 of the Penal Code,” he said in a brief statement today.
For context, Section 186 refers to obstructing a public servant from carrying out duties, Section 353 relates to using criminal force against a public servant, while Section 324 covers voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon or dangerous object.
Earlier, videos circulating on social media showed Zaharuddin being detained around 1.30am by a team of officers from the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at his Sungai Buloh residence.
Previously, media reports said seven men were arrested after allegedly provoking authorities during the enforcement of a writ of vacant possession for homes in Kampung Sungai Baru on September 11.
All suspects, aged between 15 and 52, were accused of involvement in an incident that left Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie injured while controlling the situation during the eviction.
