KUALA KANGSAR: Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah granted an audience to top management from local media organisations, including a delegation from Media Prima Bhd (MPB), at Istana Iskandariah here last night.

The hour-long session followed a moreh session held in conjunction with a breaking-of-fast event with the media, corporate and private sectors, government-linked companies, non-governmental organisations, and youth.

The MPB delegation was led by group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Aljunid, group managing director Datuk Mohd Rafiq Mat Razali, and Media Prima News and Current Affairs (NCA) deputy group managing editor and New Straits Times group editor Farrah Naz Karim.

They were joined by NCA Television Networks group editor Azhari Muhidin; NCA general manager (On-Air Presentation) Kamaruddin Mape and Berita Harian group editor Zulkifli Jalil.

Other media representatives present included Radio Televisyen Malaysia broadcasting director-general Ashwad Ismail and Sinar Karangkraf group editor-in-chief Zamri Rambli.

The audience followed an initial 30-minute session held before the breaking-of-fast, during which current issues concerning national development were discussed.

Also in attendance were Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, and Communications Minister Fadzil.

The event included tahlil recitations and congregational Maghrib, Isyak, and Tarawih prayers.

During the ceremony, Sultan Nazrin received business zakat (tithes) totalling RM5.41 million from eight corporate entities and two individuals on behalf of Zakat Perak Al Ridzuan.

The funds were subsequently handed over to Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council president Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini.

Corporate contributors included Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad, represented by its president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah (RM0.36 million); and TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd, represented by Perak TM network general manager Sallehuddin Khalif (RM0.23 million).

Other contributors were Belati (RM0.38 million), Boustead Plantations Berhad (RM0.43 million), CelcomDigi Berhad (RM0.17 million), Johawaki Plantation Sdn Bhd (RM0.15 million), Land Surveyors Board Malaysia (RM0.25 million), and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (RM0.2 million).

Individual zakat contributions were presented by Bukit Gantang member of Parliament Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (RM2.3 million) and Datuk Abdullah Abdul Mannan (RM1 million).
