Farah Nini Dusuki has been designated as chief children’s commissioner until the end of her current term on March 8, 2026, as part of a new lineup of commissioners welcomed by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam).
Al Adib Samuri, Zufar Yadi, Brendan Abdullah and Melissa Akhir have also been appointed as new human rights commissioners, effective June 28.
Al Adib and Zufar have also been named children’s commissioners, with Zufar tasked with overseeing matters in Sarawak.
The appointments were announced by chief secretary to the government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar in a statement on Wednesday, following the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s approval on the prime minister’s recommendation under Sections 5 and 6A of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Act 1999.
Suhakam welcomed the appointments, saying they reflect an ongoing commitment to strengthening the protection and promotion of children’s rights in Malaysia.
It also said the experience and expertise of the new commissioners will boost its efforts to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of all children, including undocumented minors and those in conflict with the law.
“Suhakam hopes that these appointments and designations will support and enhance institutional responses to key child rights issues, particularly in ensuring access to quality education, robust child protection mechanisms, and a just and rehabilitative juvenile justice system,” it said in a statement today.
