Stronger private sector role can boost Rahmah initiatives' success

SUBANG JAYA: The collective involvement of the private sector is key to strengthening the social safety net and expanding the impact of government efforts such as the Rahmah initiatives.

Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the initiative reflects the philosophy of Malaysia Madani, where the government, businesses and the people unite for shared prosperity and wellbeing.

She cited the Kotak Sara Rahmah programme, launched today in collaboration with Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd (Mydin), as an example of how private companies could play a stronger role in supporting the people.

“This programme is not only a package of basic items, but also a box of hope and compassion that conveys the government’s message of care to the people.

“Valued at RM100, each box contains essential goods, including products from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), thereby supporting the aspirations of the Buy Malaysian Products Campaign,” she said at the launch at Mydin Subang Jaya today.

She added that apart from helping the people, the initiative also boosts MSMEs by prioritising local entrepreneurs’ products in every box.

“Through this programme, the public can purchase and contribute the boxes to those in need.

“Distribution will be carried out by Mydin in collaboration with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry under the Bakul Rahmah programme nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak,” she said.

Fuziah also called on other supermarkets and hypermarkets to follow Mydin’s lead in stepping forward to help the people.

“This initiative reflects the true spirit of Malaysia Madani cooperation, where the government provides policies, the private sector contributes expertise and resources, and society comes together to make it a success.

“May this initiative inspire all parties to continue contributing to the people’s wellbeing and in realising the aspirations of Malaysia Madani,” she said.
