Strong Earthquake Hits Kamchatka, Russia


KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13  (Bernama) — A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck near the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka region at 10.37 am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia),  in a statement, said that the epicentre was located at coordinates 53.0° North and 160.5° East, which is about 120 kilometres from Petropavlovsk Kamchatskiy, Russia, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

“Initial assessments found that this earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia,” read the statement.
