KINABATANGAN:

A stroke patient died when the ambulance she was in collided with a van near Jalan Kampung Paris 1 here this morning.

Kinabatangan district police chief D Ravi said 12 people were injured in the 9.40am incident, comprising the ambulance driver, a co-driver, a doctor and a nurse on board the ambulance, as well as eight people in the van.

He said the injured were being treated at Kinabatangan Hospital.

“In the incident, the patient, a woman, was being transferred from Lahad Datu Hospital to Queen Elizabeth 1 Hospital in Kota Kinabalu for treatment.

“As the ambulance was negotiating a bend, a van entered the opposite lane and collided with it. The patient died at the scene,” he told Bernama.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
