State, Federal Govts Join Forces To Enhance Infrastructure At Pahang Tahfiz Schools

KUANTAN, Aug 14 (Bernama) — Efforts to enhance infrastructure at private tahfiz schools in Pahang were being carried out through cooperation between the state and federal governments, the Pahang State Legislative Assembly was told today.

State Islamic Religious Affairs, Rural Development and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad said the federal government had allocated RM3.5 million last year to 31 private tahfiz schools to enhance their learning facilities.

“The state government, through the Makmur Pahang initiative, has provided RM2,000 to each of these private tahfiz schools. This support has been extended for the past three years until this year,” he said.

He said this in response to a question from Haris Salleh Hamzah (Lantikan Assemblyman) regarding the latest number of registered tahfiz institutions in Pahang and the measures being implemented to strengthen their infrastructure, student welfare, and management.

Syed Ibrahim said that, to date, 136 private tahfiz schools had been registered across Pahang, while 56 others were pending registration with the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP).

He added that 37 tahfiz kindergartens under the state government were now in operation, with 157 teachers serving 1,180 students across each state constituency in Pahang.

Syed Ibrahim said the state government allocated RM7.4 million annually for the operation of tahfiz institutions, including RM250 per student in fee assistance for those from B40 families, totalling RM2.52 million.
