SINGAPORE: Star Media Group (SMG) has bagged two awards for best climate infographics and best cover design at the WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards 2025, recognising its excellence in visual storytelling.
The Star won first prize in the Best Climate Infographics category for The Invasion of Plastics, a detailed look at the microplastics cycle in our environment.
It also clinched second place in the Best Cover Design for its Dangerous Drugs in Vape, which is a deep dive into the hazardous world of vape addiction.
The prizes were received by The Star executive editor of content design Tung Eng Hwa.
Star Media Group chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng said the achievement would inspire The Star’s team to keep pushing forward.
“I’m incredibly proud of our team. Climate issues have always been an important pillar for us at SMG, and being recognised as the top in the region for our climate infographic is truly humbling,” she said.
Tung said the awards were a meaningful win for The Star, as it affirmed their commitment as a mainstream media outlet to educate and create awareness, particularly among the youth, through impactful visual storytelling.
“The award is a direct recognition of our impactful ‘The Invasion of Plastics’ infographic.
“It is also a testament to the powerful teamwork within our newsroom.
“Reporters, editors, and designers collaborated effectively to craft compelling stories and award-winning designs,” he said.
Organised by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), the Asian Media Awards has celebrated outstanding achievements in news publishing across the Asia-Pacific region since its inception in 2009.
