KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Red Giants (SRG.OG) inched closer to their “four-peat” mission after securing a place in the Upper Bracket final of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) Season 16 trophy.
Heavyweights SRG.OG whipped Monster Vicious (MV) 3-0 in the Upper Bracket semifinal at MAEPS Serdang
today and will next take on CG Esports in the Upper Bracket final on Saturday for a place in the Grand Finals on Sunday.
MV, who eliminated HomeBois in the play-in stage yesterday, were hoping to continue their momentum.
However, the polished gameplay by SRG.OG proved difficult to contain, especially with Mark Rusiana (Kramm) leading with hero Lapu-Lapu, supported by Hazziq Danish Rizwan (Stormie) and John Banal (Innocent) on Kimmy and Cici respectively.
It took SRG.OG only 12 minutes to secure the first point for a 1-0 lead.
In the second game, MV pushed hard to get back into the game, but SRG.OG proved to be too hard to upstage, thanks to Stormie dominating performance with hero Zhuxin and claimed the win in 15 minutes to lead 2-0.
SRG.OG continued their dominance in the third game, with Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman (Sekys) starring on the hero Joy, helping the team seal the win in 16 minutes and complete a 3-0 sweep.
The victory sent SRG.OG into the Upper Bracket final, putting them just one step away from securing a slot at the MLBB M7 World Championship in Jakarta next January.
In the other semifinal, CG bounced back after losing the first game to beat Vamos 3-1 to set up a date with SRG.OG in the Upper Bracket final.
Vamos will next take on MV in the Lower Bracket final, and the winners will progress to the Grand Final.
This season’s MPL Malaysia offers two qualifying tickets to M7, which carries a total prize pool of US$1 million.
