SERDANG: Red Giants (SRG.OG) cemented their status as the country’s dominant force after clinching their fourth straight Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) title with a commanding 4-0 win over CG Esports in the Season 16 Grand Finals today.

CG entered the best-of-seven showdown hoping to trouble the defending champions, but were unable to sustain pressure against a side that once again demonstrated superior composure and decision-making at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park.

Their best opportunity came in Game One when they controlled the early phase, but a few misjudgements allowed SRG.OG to swing the momentum back in their favour.

From that point, the champions dictated proceedings, aside from brief spells of resistance from CG.

The victory makes SRG.OG the first Malaysian team to secure an unprecedented four consecutive MPL MY titles, mirroring ONIC’s run of MPL Indonesia triumphs from Season 10-14.

Both teams will now turn their attention to the M7 World Championships in Jakarta in January, where SRG.OG hope to improve on their third-place finish at M6 on home soil and complete their collection of major honours.

SRG.OG head coach Michael Angelo “Arcadia” Bocado said he was delighted with the milestone achievement.

“I’m really happy with this achievement because I can now wear five rings on my fingers,” said the Filipino coach, who won his first MPL title with Sunsparks in Season 5 of MPL Philippines, during the post-match press conference.

“But internationally, I really want to win the M-Series as it is the only title missing from my resume. It is unfortunate that I went to two M-Series and got third both times.”

Arcadia said SRG.OG treated Game One as an opportunity to assess CG’s approach before tightening their strategy.

“We had to see what their strategy is so Game One was not easy,” he said. “We got a good read and assessment of what they are capable of and what their plans are.

“It was tough but props to the boys, they made the adjustment needed quickly and still managed to get the win. That led to a pretty dominant Grand Finals win for us.”
