BUKIT KAYU HITAM, Sept 17 — A 17-year-old Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate was reportedly among six teenagers detained by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) Kedah during a joint operation at the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint yesterday.

According to Berita Harian, Nada Kedah director Khairul Ahmad said the Form Five student from a secondary school in Penang admitted to taking drugs due to life pressures and curiosity, and confessed it was his second time trying ketamine.

“Investigations revealed that the student, an only child, has been living with his grandparents since his parents’ divorce when he was nine,” Khairul was quoted as saying.

The teenager was reportedly stopped at the motorcycle lane of the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex at about 3.45pm while returning from Thailand with three friends, all aged 18.

Nada said the four tested positive for ketamine after allegedly sharing a drug-laced cigarette while on holiday across the border.

In total, six individuals aged 17 to 19 were found positive during the two-hour operation between 3pm and 5pm.

The case is reportedly being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
