Speedy Tigress Maul Taiwan In Women’s Hockey Asia Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 (Bernama) — The Speedy Tigress bounced back from a crushing 8-0 opening day loss to China by trouncing Taiwan 11-1 in their second Group A match at the 2025 Women’s Hockey Asia Cup at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, China today.

The Speedy Tigress, coached by Mohd Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim, struck four times in the first quarter – scoring through Nur Afiqah Syahzani Azhar (second minute), Nuramirah Shakirah Zulkifli (third minute), Khairunnisa Ayuni Mohd Sharuddin (eighth minute) and Hanis Nadiah Onn (14th minute).

The Malaysian women continued their fine form to close the first half with three more goals – a Nuramirah Shakirah field goal in the 16th minute and two penalty corner goals from Fatin Shafika Mahd Sukri (21st minute) and Nur Afiqah Syahzani (23rd minute).

Malaysia then added four more goals in the second half, thanks to strikes by Khairunnisa Ayuni (32nd minute), Siti Nur Arfah Mohd Nor (36th, 56th minutes), before Nur Afiqah Syahzani completed her hat-trick in the 60th minute.

Credit to Taiwan, though, as they managed to get a consolation goal through a penalty stroke slotted home by Huang Yu-Ting in the 59th minute.

“Alhamdulillah, we won today. We can take this result and the feel-good factor with us to the next game.

“I am sure this huge win has boosted the players’ confidence as we prepare for our final Group A match against South Korea tomorrow (Sept 8),” Nasihin said in a video clip shared by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC).
