SEREMBAN: MIC leadership has been advised to use the Barisan Nasional (BN) Supreme Council as a platform to voice opinions or express dissatisfaction with the coalition.
BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said party leaders should not take shortcuts by making statements outside the BN Supreme Council, as they risk being misinterpreted.
He said MIC should remain in BN as the party has been part of nation-building efforts since before independence.
“If you have views, speak up… don’t bottle them up during meetings but then say something else outside, that’s not good.
“The harmony within BN can be affected by such actions and statements.
“If there are any intentions or concerns, bring them up in the BN Supreme Council, which has always served as a forum for all component parties, including Umno and MCA.
“There’s no need to speak outside, because sometimes it can be misunderstood.
It’s better for component party leaders to meet and discuss through the BN Supreme Council.
“That’s better than speaking publicly or giving opinions that ultimately have a negative impact on your own party,” said the Umno deputy president when met after opening the 2025 Merdeka Carnival here today.
The foreign minister was commenting on remarks by several MIC leaders hinting that the party intended to leave BN.
The issue arose after MIC leaders claimed that BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had failed to fulfil a promise of cabinet posts in return for supporting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.
It is understood that four MIC state liaison committees have passed resolutions to leave BN.
