KUALA LUMPUR:

Education minister Fadhlina Sidek today said that prompt assistance would be provided for Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tinggi Setapak following the fire which broke out at one of its dormitory blocks yesterday.

She said the current priority was to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and the school community.

“I have been informed about the fire at SMK Tinggi Setapak. Immediate aid will be channelled to safeguard the well-being of all those affected,” she said in a post on Facebook.

The fire broke out at 8.43pm, at a dormitory block housing 91 male students, all of whom were at the school’s surau when the blaze occurred.

Fire and rescue department operations commander Japari Tajuddin said the fire affected the first floor of the dormitory, causing 80% damage.
