Smart Malaysia Launches Fully-Electric #5 SUV; Starting Price RM199,800

Smart Malaysia has launched the fully-electric #5, which comes in two variants: Premium and Brabus. The mid-size SUV was first previewed at the Malaysia Auto Show (MAS 2025) and comes with a starting price of RM199,800.

Design-wise, the EV SUV adopts a boxy profile with clean lines around the body. It features an oblong-themed aesthetic, most prominently showcased in the front fascia. A full-width light bar integrates with oblong-shaped Cyberlight matrix LED headlamps and daytime running lights, giving the vehicle a distinctive look. The rear follows the same design cue with its taillights.

The Brabus enhances the design with a sportier front lip and a lower apron accented by oblong perforations. It also comes with 21-inch Brabus Monoblock Z 10-spoke wheels, while a sculpted roof spoiler completes its sporty and rugged look.

Inside, the Premium variant comes with Nappa leather seats and Oak trims. Meanwhile, the Brabus features Alcantara upholstery, red stitching and iconic red seat belts complementing the black interior. Additionally, the #5 comes with a feature known as One-Touch Comfort which, according to Smart, can transform the interior into a bed for two occupants.

In terms of connectivity, both models feature a 13-inch dual display unit dominating the dashboard, resembling a compact television, powered by the AMD V2000 chip running Smart OS. They also come with a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display.

The SUV supports CarPlay and Android Auto and includes a ChatGPT-powered voice assistant, along with over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Practicality is also strong, with a 72-litre frunk and up to 1,530 litres of rear cargo space. For entertainment, the cabin offers a Sennheiser-sourced sound system with 20 speakers and Dolby Atmos. Other features include heating and ventilation for the front seats, and heating for the rear seats.

Performance-wise, the Premium comes with an RWD powertrain featuring a single motor with an output of 267 kW and 373 Nm of torque. In contrast, the Brabus comes with two motors and an all-wheel drive setup. It produces 475 kW (646 PS) and 710 Nm, completing the century sprint in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 210 km/h.

Both models are powered by a 100 kWh NCM battery pack offering a WLTP range of 590 km (Premium) and 540 km (Brabus). Since both models are built on an 800 V architecture, it takes only 15 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% using a fast DC charger.

The EV SUV comes with five driving modes: Sand, Snow, Rock, Mud and Adaptive. The Adaptive driving mode, according to the automaker, is able to identify the terrain the car is driven on and adjust accordingly.
