Baling: A human skeleton was discovered in a rubber plantation at Kampung Padang Besar, Kuala Ketil, yesterday morning.

The remains were found by a 43-year-old man who was tapping rubber in the area.

Acting Baling police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Salimi Md Ali, said his team received a report from the man at 11am regarding the discovery of the skeleton near a fence where he was working.

He said the complainant also found a blue SYM motorcycle with registration number KDS 5236 about 25 metres from the site of the discovery.

Based on the police report, at 11.30am a team of officers and personnel arrived at the scene to carry out investigations, he said.

“The remains were discovered lying face up, with the feet on a white empty tin and a knife nearby.

“Checks on missing persons records revealed a report was lodged by the deceased’s wife on Aug 29.

“According to her, her husband had left home on Aug 24,” he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Salimi said the deceased’s wife identified the remains based on the clothing and the motorcycle found at the scene.

The body has since been sent to the Forensic Department at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

So far, the case is being investigated as sudden death, he said.

Police have urged the public to assist investigations by sharing information through the MERS 999 hotline or the nearest police station.
