SK Darulaman Heights Makes Malaysia Proud With 12 Medals From South Korea Math Competition

JITRA, Aug 6 (Bernama) — Sekolah Kebangsaan Darulaman Heights has etched its name on the international stage, clinching two gold, two silver and eight bronze medals at a mathematics competition in .

Headmaster Mafezzul Mohamad said 15 pupils from the school took part in the event, held in conjunction with the International Youth Exchange Korea 2025 programme at Daejin University, Yangju City, Seoul, from July 24 to 29.

“We are truly proud of this achievement as it has brought honour not only to our school, but also to Kedah and Malaysia as a whole.

“This was an international‑level competition, with participation from various countries, particularly a strong showing from South Korean pupils and students,” he told reporters here today.

Mafezzul said the accomplishment also reflected the effectiveness of the school’s Dual Language Programme for Science and Mathematics.

He added that the win builds on the school’s earlier success as overall champion in the primary school science category at the 2024 World Mathematics and Science Competition in Bogor, Indonesia.

“This achievement reflects the effectiveness of our Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics programme, which not only focuses on mathematics olympiads but also on developing our school’s robotics team,” he said.

Meanwhile, accompanying science and mathematics teacher Nor Shazwani Ahmad said the pupils underwent several weeks of intensive training in answering mathematics questions before the competition.

She said the team also leveraged Artificial Intelligence (AI) via ChatGPT to help pupils understand and learn the best methods for solving problems.

“In mathematics competitions, the questions posed are often not covered in the primary school syllabus as they are taught at secondary level, making them challenging for younger pupils to grasp.

“So we often use ChatGPT to obtain solutions that are easier for them to understand, and the pupils can also continue learning at home using the guidance we provide,” she said.
