ALOR SETAR: Police have arrested six individuals in connection with the murder of a Bangladeshi man at a house in Kampung Jalan Yan, near Guar Chempedak, today.
Yan district police chief Supt Mohamad Hamizi Abdullah said the suspects — two local men and four Bangladeshi nationals aged between 29 and 44 — lived in the same house as the victim and worked as construction labourers.
The incident is believed to have occurred around 1pm, when a 42-year-old local man reprimanded the victim, a 37-year-old Bangladeshi colleague, for arriving late to work.
“The dissatisfied suspect grabbed a small piece of iron, while the victim went to the kitchen to take a parang (machete). The victim then immediately swung the parang at the suspect,” he said in a statement.
The suspect reportedly dodged the attack, threw the iron piece onto the floor, and grabbed a nearby cable wire to strangle the victim.
“While struggling, the suspect noticed the victim had lost consciousness. He then came to the police station to lodge a report,” Hamizi said.
Investigators found three ligature marks on the victim’s neck and a wound on his lip. Police also confiscated a roll of wire, a parang, and a concrete iron bar.
A remand application will be made on Friday. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.— BERNAMA
