KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) — The Hult Prize Foundation has announced the results of its Global Finals, naming Stick ’Em from the National University of Singapore and Singapore University of Technology and Design as the winner of the annual US$1 million Hult Prize. (US$1=RM4.20)
The announcement was made at the Global Finals held on Sept 5 at London’s Tate Modern, where Stick ’Em was selected from eight finalist teams.
Stick ’Em expands access to education by offering affordable hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) kits combined with a digital platform, aimed at making experiential learning more accessible to schools worldwide, particularly in underserved communities.
Hult Prize Chief Executive Officer, Lori van Dam in a statement said the event highlighted the growing role of business in addressing global challenges.
“The Hult Prize showcases how for-profit businesses can improve the world and why investors should back more purpose-led start-ups. Stick ’Em is an ambitious business that stood out among 15,000 startup ideas with a clear vision for global growth,” she said.
This year’s competition attracted more than 200,000 participants from 130 countries and nearly 2,000 universities, generating some 15,000 startup ideas.
Other finalists included CeluNova, EcoPack, Lir Labs, LOCOL, Sara Technology, S3CURA and Urbo Biotech, with pitches evaluated by a panel of global leaders in venture capital, sustainability and entrepreneurship.
The Hult Prize is an annual competition that challenges for-profit student entrepreneurs to develop businesses aligned with at least one United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). Each venture must demonstrate impact across people, planet and profit.
For 16 years, the Hult Prize has empowered student entrepreneurs to launch sustainable businesses tackling global issues. Previous winners include Korion Health (University of Pittsburgh, University of Maryland) in 2024 and Banofi Leather (Yale University) in 2023.
The Hult Prize is funded by the Hult family, founders and owners of Education First (EF), and has grown into a year-long competition that engages universities worldwide.
