KUALA LUMPUR: The motive behind the murder of a woman — whose body was found in a car after her driver shot and stabbed a police officer in Simpang Pulai, Perak, on Sept 7 — remains unclear until the main suspect is arrested.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said investigations are ongoing to establish the truth of the incident and to track down the perpetrator, who is still at large.
“The motive is still under investigation. We will only know once the main suspect is caught and questioned,” he said.
He added that the suspect has been listed with Interpol following an official request, and has been declared a wanted person by the police.
Regarding the injured police officer, he said the corporal is now stable but remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB), Ipoh.
It was reported yesterday that police believe that the main suspect in the case has fled the country.
Noor Hisam also revealed that the female victim and the main suspect were siblings.
In the 1.15am incident, a team from the Simpang Pulai Police Station spotted a suspicious man in an MPV at Taman Desa Pakatan during a crime prevention patrol. The suspect sped off when approached, leading to a chase until the MPV stopped near a palm oil plantation.
During an attempted arrest, a struggle broke out between the suspect and one of the officers.
The suspect allegedly seized the officer’s service pistol, shot him in the abdomen, then stabbed him, before fleeing with the weapon.
