HONG KONG: Actor Brian Wong and his wife Lilian Chan have welcomed their second child, a baby girl, at the remarkable age of 58.
The couple, who married in 2010, are already parents to six-year-old Miracle, affectionately nicknamed Faye Faye.
They announced the happy news on Sept 6 via social media, sharing a video of both mother and newborn doing well, with a beaming Faye Faye carrying her little sister.
Wong, also 58, told Ming Pao Daily News that his daughter was born on Aug 22, weighing 3.34kg.
“When my wife was 37 weeks pregnant, the doctor advised a C-section at the right time,” he explained, noting that the baby was bigger than her older sister, who weighed 2.72kg at birth.
According to Wong, the newborn and her elder sister resemble each other closely.
Chan has since returned home for her postpartum confinement and, despite her age, is able to breastfeed while supplementing with formula milk.
Wong revealed that while Faye Faye was conceived naturally, the couple’s second child was the result of in-vitro fertilisation, with close monitoring by doctors at Prince of Wales Hospital and CUHK Medical Centre.
“The hospital was very thorough. Her blood pressure and other health indicators were well controlled,” Wong said.
“My wife now holds the record as the oldest woman to give birth at CUHK Medical Centre. Doctors plan to study her case, and I welcome it if it can help future mothers.”
Though grateful for their growing family, Wong admitted that the possibility of a third child is unlikely.
“I’m very content and thankful to have two daughters,” he shared.
