The Dewan Rakyat briefly erupted in cheers and chants of “Kekal Anwar” (Retain Anwar) after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim wrapped up his tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) today.
As Anwar concluded his nearly two-hour speech outlining the government’s development plan from 2026 to 2030, a small group of MPs broke into applause and began shouting their support.
The phrase “Kekal Anwar” rang out several times, most notably by Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat), drawing murmurs and thumping of tables.
Deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker Alice Lau quickly responded by switching off the microphones in the hall to restore order.
The 13MP will involve a total of RM611 billion over five years, with major upgrades promised in transport, education, health, and renewable energy, among others.
Anwar said RM430 billion in development funds would be from the government’s coffers, while government-linked companies and government-linked investment companies would provide RM120 billion.
The remaining RM61 billion will be derived from the private sector via private-public partnerships.
