KUALA LANGAT, Oct 11 — Police fired five shots at the tyres of a four-wheel-drive vehicle packed with undocumented migrants during a car chase near the Telok Panglima Garang Toll Plaza yesterday.

The 4.30am incident unfolded when a General Operations Force (GOF) team from the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Task Force and the Pulau Carey post launched an operation in the area, Sinar Harian reported today.

According to the Malay daily, Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said officers had stopped two vehicles — a Toyota Fortuner SUV and a 4×4 — both believed to be ferrying Bangladeshi nationals without valid documents.

“But the 4×4 driver suddenly reversed at high speed, ramming into the enforcement vehicle and hitting a Perodua Myvi belonging to one of our officers,” he was quoted as saying.

At the same time, the Toyota Fortuner driver also rammed into the GOF vehicle, prompting two officers to open fire, discharging five rounds at the rear tyres to stop the escape.

Despite the shots, the 4×4 driver sped off against traffic, while the Toyota Fortuner broke through the toll plaza and headed towards the SKVE highway.

The senior officer said police later found the Toyota Fortuner abandoned by the roadside with its doors left open and no one inside.

No contraband was found, and no injuries were reported in the incident.

“Efforts to track down all the suspects and the undocumented migrants involved are still ongoing.

“The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants and Section 307 for attempted murder,” Mohd Akmalrizal was quoted as saying.

He urged the public not to speculate on the case and to contact the Kuala Langat district police headquarters operations room at 03-3187 2222 with any information.
