KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — A 49-year-old man smoker was arrested by police last night after returning from a motorcycle convoy to Thailand, following an incident in which he became angry after being reprimanded for smoking near a restaurant.

The suspect was taken into custody at Persiaran Kayangan, Seksyen 9, Shah Alam.

Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, said the man will be brought to the Shah Alam Magistrates’ Court this morning to apply for remand, according to Utusan Malaysia.

“For your information, the suspect has been arrested and will be brought to the Shah Alam Magistrates’ Court this morning for remand. He was apprehended in Shah Alam after returning from a motorcycle ride in Thailand,” he told reporters.

Mohd Iqbal added that urine tests on the suspect returned negative results and that he has no prior criminal record.

The arrest follows an incident reported by local media, in which the man allegedly became angry and argued with a married couple after being told not to smoke at a restaurant in Seksyen 13.

The couple, including a pregnant woman, had complained to restaurant staff about the man smoking at a nearby table, but the warning was ignored.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act.
